After a seemingly never-ending two-year campaign, Election Day is finally here!
Natalie and I visited Manassas, Virginia last night for the final Barack Obama rally of 2008. Some 80,000 - 100,000 people showed up for the rally. And even though the rally was scheduled for 9 pm, Barack did not speak until 10:40 pm. Despite the cold and long wait, the people patiently enthusiastically greeted the next President of the United States.
After a warm introduction by Virginia Governor Tim Kaine and personal hero of mine (and future US Senator) Mark Warner, Barack Obama spoke for about half an hour. Barack reflected over the grueling campaign, but focused on finishing the job and the importance of making it to the polls on election day. Obama concluded the final rally of his 2008 campaign by telling a story about a small South Carolina woman whose mantra was "fired up and ready to go." As Obama wrapped up his speech, the crowd responded with their own raucous chant of "fired up and ready to go."
And now, here comes the dramatic part. Will all of these fired up Virginians make it to the polls? How will the Commonwealth go -- red or blue? What about Iowa? Minnesota? Michigan? Pennsylvania? North Carolina? New Hampshire? Indiana? Ohio? Missouri? Colorado? Montana? North Dakota? Texas? Arizona? New Mexico? Nevada? Georgia? Florida? Mississippi? Louisiana?
We shall see. Stay tuned for an election night for the ages. In the meanwhile, make sure to go vote!
