LSU football legend Billy Cannon is coming to Storyville! Look for the Storyville Original "The Cannon" to debut in late October, just in time to commerate the 48th Anniversary of Billy Cannon's famous 1959 Halloween run.
On October 31, 1959, the Tigers were trailing Ole Miss 3-0 when Billy returned a punt 89 yards for a touchdown, breaking seven tackles. It was the only touchdown of the game, resulting in a 7-3 victory for LSU in Tiger Stadium. Some people believe that Billy's magical run was a product of divine intervention. Other people believe that Billy was just that good. Either way, Billy Cannon waltzed his way into LSU football lore and went on to win the Heisman Trophy that year.
We are working with New Orleans native Kenneth Robin to develop the art for the upcoming t-shirt. We are also working closely with Billy Cannon's family on this project -- Billy's daughter Bunnie in particular. We're curious to see what Billy himself thinks of the finished design, which will be unveiled in two weeks. Check out the image to the left, which is Billy Cannon's 1960 Fleer football card (but not the design for our upcoming tee).

I had the privilage of going to dental school with billy and will always remember the time i had an important bridge due the next day for a techniques class. Well i messed up the night before and the bridge got burned up in the dental furnace. I was sitting there in the lab at the fraternity house looking like the end of the world was around the corner when billy walked in and asked what was going on. I told him and with out a moments hesitation said "lets get to work" and together we stayed up most of the night redoing that bridge for class the next morning.
That is the essence of the man.
